Deadend

We all have choices to make and in this short story, "Dead End", Maria is no exception. She is a senior in high school and her main motive is to make her mother proud by receiving a full education. As she sat beside her mother's deathbed, two years ago, her promise to her mother before she died was to not give up her dream of getting a good education. Her last time seeing and telling her mother that, made her mother smile and from then on in she lived up to that expectation. This promise started to weigh heavy on her especially when she seen all the cool kids in school having fun, leaving school, as well as drinking and getting high. A part of her wanted to know what it felt like to be one of them and at times she felt hopeless with no one to really support her and motivate her, she had to motivate herself because there was no one to talk to and her father became distant to the family since the death of her mother.
